Attending the WLG Networking meeting more than met my expectations. My experience was that of arriving to a place where I felt as though I belonged. I can't speak for others, but what I encountered was rare and long-awaited. Not only was I enlightened the way I described above. I also came to look at my current work with animals in a new light. Attending WLG helped me to see that I have more to offer to help others than I had realized. The feedback I received, put me in touch with how my work with animals, including volunteering and fostering for the SPCA, hasn't only helped the animals. My hope is that by sharing how my experience fostering a severely abused young pitbull named Pirate, not only helped him. I had just put down my 15 year old pitbull, Sugar, due to end stage renal failure. This occurred just before the decision to divorce my spouse of 25 years. The events leading up to this, had left me with significant trust issues. Helping Pirate learn that it is possible to trust, helped us both to heal our wounds.
